![]() Yes you can go out, stretch your legs, use the toilet, top up your drink, get more snacks and talk amongst your loved ones about your thoughts so far and maybe predict how it’s all going to come to an end. It’s a shame really because an intermission around a lengthy film’s midpoint not only benefits the viewer. But for whatever reason neither The Two Towers (2002) nor The Return Of The King (2003) included an intermission. Clocking in at a whopping runtime of 2 hours and 58 minutes (Not including the Extended Cut), a break was much wisely needed and it was implied that this would be the case in the next two Lord Of The Rings instalments. The last big release in recent memory to feature an intermission was in fact Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring (2001), the first instalment in director Peter Jackson’s Middle Earth saga. Especially when it feels like films are just getting longer and more winded as time goes on. ![]() It may seem like an antiquated practice by today’s standards but it makes you wonder why it’s not been still put into practice.
